Mudjacking: Raising Settled Concrete Back to Level
A cost-conscious, less-invasive way to lift uneven slabs across North and South Carolina, without breaking out and repouring the concrete.
Let's take the first step toward a healthy home.
A local specialist will inspect your foundation, walk you through the findings, and send a clear estimate. no cost, no pressure.
What mudjacking is and when it's the right call.
Mudjacking works on a straightforward principle. A settled slab has voids underneath it, and filling those voids with a dense, flowable material both supports the concrete and pushes it back up. Our crew drills a pattern of small holes through the top of the slab, generally around the size of a quarter to a silver dollar. A cement-based slurry, blended from sand, cement, water, and other fine material, is then pumped under pressure through those holes. As the slurry fills the empty space beneath the concrete, it raises the slab gradually toward its original elevation. The lift is done in small, controlled increments so the slab rises evenly and does not crack or over-rise. Once the concrete reaches the target height, the holes are patched and the cured slurry stays in place as a stable base beneath the slab. The result is a surface that sits flush again, with the trip hazards and the pitched, uneven look corrected. What mudjacking does not do on its own is change the deeper soil behavior or grading conditions that allowed the settlement in the first place. That is why diagnosis comes before lifting. In active Piedmont clay that keeps swelling and shrinking, in Sandhills sand where fines keep washing out, or where water is draining against the slab and eroding the subgrade, we may recommend correcting the underlying cause, or a deeper structural solution such as piers, so the lift holds up over time instead of re-settling.
How we install mudjacking.
No-pressure inspection and diagnosis
We start by evaluating the slab and, just as importantly, why it settled. We measure how far and in which direction the concrete has dropped, check for voids underneath it, and assess the soil and grading around it. In Charlotte-area Piedmont clay, Sandhills sand, or the foothill clay of the SC Upstate and Midlands, the cause of the settlement shapes the recommendation, and we will tell you plainly if mudjacking is not the right fit for your slab.
Confirm candidacy and explain the plan
Mudjacking suits many exterior and interior flatwork slabs, but it is not appropriate for every situation. We confirm whether your slab is a good candidate, walk you through what the lift will involve, and explain any grading or soil corrections we would recommend alongside it. You get a clear picture of the work and the cost before anything begins.
Drill the injection holes
Our crew drills a pattern of small holes through the surface of the slab in the areas that need to come up. The hole pattern is planned around where the voids sit and how the concrete needs to rise, so the lift comes up evenly rather than in one spot.
Pump the slurry and lift the slab
A cement-based slurry is pumped through the holes under controlled pressure. As it fills the voids beneath the slab, the concrete rises in small, monitored increments back toward its original height. Working gradually keeps the lift even and reduces the risk of cracking the slab.
Patch, clean up, and review
Once the slab sits at the target elevation, we patch the injection holes and clean the work area. We review the finished surface with you and go over any grading recommendations that help protect the lift, so you understand how to keep the slab supported going forward.
"Mudjacking is one of the most cost-effective ways to bring a slab back to level, and folks are often surprised how much of an eyesore and trip hazard it takes care of. The part we take pride in is figuring out why the concrete sank, because in our Carolina soils that is what tells us whether the lift will last. If mudjacking is not the right call for your slab, we will tell you. No pressure, no upsell."
